Balanced Rock Idaho
This was my 2nd time to Balanced Rock in Idaho which is just outside Twin Falls, after living here since 1976 near Boise. I’ve been going to Jackpot, Nevada and Cactus Pete’s since when I turned 21 and over the last several years my friends and I would go there a few times a year. I had heard about Balanced Rock but never knew how easy it was to get there and then get back on the path to head back home. I am so glad that I told my friends about it and that we journey down the country road to view this amazing outcrop of rocks.
If you are coming from Twin Falls the turnoff is E 3700 N Road which is just off Highway 93 South of Twin Falls and on the way to the Idaho-Nevada border. But if you are driving from Boise which is about 2 hours there are a few slightly shorter routes (click for Google Maps) to get there. I only have been on the road off Highway 93 which is paved and haven’t driven the other routes.
Don’t forget to bring some water with you because it will get hot during the summer months. I would say the best time to visit would be spring and fall but before the snow starts to fly. However I have a feeling it’s very pretty during the winter months after a fresh snowfall. Make sure bring your camera because there is plenty of beauty from the steam, rocky canyon and lots of Idaho farmland for miles. I would also suggest you pack a picnic lunch because there’s a park in a canyon with a small stream. It makes a perfect setting to enjoy lunch by yourself with a good book or with friends. Take the time to get out and explore and bring a little more balance to your life.
